Hike overview
The Unicorn Falls walking track offers a serene and scenic bushwalk through Mount Jerusalem National Park, located just an hour from Byron Bay. This 4.2km return trail takes you through a mix of tall eucalypt forest and lush sub-tropical rainforest, providing a peaceful escape into nature. The track follows gentle slopes, crossing a few creeks along the way, before reaching the tranquil Unicorn Falls, tucked away in the forest. The sound of the cascading water and the cool shade of the surrounding trees create the perfect spot to pause, rest, and take in the beauty of the area.
As you walk, keep an eye out for the park’s fascinating wildlife, including the elusive Albert’s lyrebird and the red-legged pademelon, both of which are threatened species. You might also spot eastern yellow robins flitting through the trees. Summer is the ideal time to visit, as the falls flow at their best during the warmer, wetter months. In contrast, winter brings a quieter scene, with the falls possibly running lower and the forest canopy casting a darker, cooler shadow. After taking in the sights and sounds of the falls, simply retrace your steps back to the trailhead.
