Standards and Principles

Trail Hiking Australia is something I built to share reliable trail information and practical safety guidance with other hikers.

As the site has grown, I’ve put clear standards in place to guide how information is researched, verified and shared.

These standards focus on safety, responsible access to public land, environmental care and independence in how content is published.

1. Responsible Access and Stewardship

Location information carries impact.

I focus on established tracks and managed public access routes. Fragile environments and sensitive sites are not promoted for novelty or social appeal.

Access needs to remain viable for future generations.

This page explains how environmental limits, risk literacy and responsible sharing guide the way I publish location information.

2. Position on Trail Access and Development

Public land should remain public.

I support equitable access to well-managed trails and responsible investment in maintenance and infrastructure. I also raise concerns about over-commercialisation and exclusionary development within protected areas.

This page outlines my position on public land protection, funding and access.

3. Safety and Verification Standards

Digital files are tools, not guarantees.

Trail descriptions, grades, route data and GPX files are reviewed using mapping, official land manager sources and, where possible, firsthand experience.

Accuracy takes precedence over speed.

Not all trails have verified GPX files. That is intentional.

This page explains how I approach safety, verification and data integrity.

4. Funding and Editorial Independence

Independence protects trust.

Trail Hiking Australia is supported through community contributions, limited advertising and carefully selected collaborations.

These do not influence trail information, safety guidance or editorial decisions.

Clear boundaries exist to ensure commercial considerations never override public interest or safety.

This page explains how support works and how independence is maintained.

A Clear Commitment

Trail Hiking Australia exists to support informed, responsible decision-making in the outdoors.

Growth will not come at the expense of safety.
Visibility will not override environmental limits.
Commercial opportunity will not influence trail information.

These aren’t marketing lines. They’re the standards I choose to operate by.
