Trail summary
Hike overview
Immerse yourself in history and nature with the OT Dam Circuit Walk, a moderately challenging (Grade 3) 3.5km loop trail located within Arthurs Seat State Park. This scenic hike, taking approximately 2 hours to complete, is best accessed from Arthurs Seat Road near Main Creek Road.
The trail winds through a deep gully, showcasing towering native forests including eucalyptus. As you navigate the well-formed track with some hills, you'll be rewarded with captivating views of the picturesque OT Dam, complete with a surrounding boardwalk.
Step back in time as you learn about the dam's fascinating history. Originally built in 1934 by local workers for the OT Cordial Company (later Kia Ora Cordials), it was constructed using horse-drawn scoops and stones to serve as irrigation for their crops. Interestingly, the company's name, "OT," stemmed from a cordial they produced that featured chilies. Sadly, the business closed in the early 1940s.
The well-signposted walk also borders the Hillview Quarry, adding another layer of historical intrigue to your exploration.
