Craving a moderately challenging hike with scenic rewards? Check out the Chandler View Circuit Walk within Oxley Wild Rivers National Park in New South Wales. This 6km (grade 3) loop takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete and offers a fantastic opportunity to experience the park's unique dry rainforest ecosystem.
The Chandler View Circuit Walk conveniently starts and ends at the Long Point campground and picnic area. This medium-length track takes you on an immersive journey through the wonders of dry rainforest. Keep your eyes peeled for the delicate rock orchids and felt ferns – these plants thrive in these unique conditions and are a true highlight of the walk.
As you progress along the track, it opens out, revealing breathtaking gorge ridges dotted with yellow box and silvertop stringybark trees. This scenic transition leads you to the captivating Chandler River Lookout. Take a well-deserved break here and soak in the panoramic views. Don't forget your binoculars! The lookout offers a fantastic opportunity for wildlife and birdwatching, allowing you to spot a variety of creatures amidst the dry rainforest landscape. Look closely – you might even see patches of darker green vegetation clinging to the southern slopes, a testament to the resilience of this special ecosystem.

Getting to the trailhead: Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.
Nestled within the northern precinct of Oxley Wild Rivers National Park lies the Chandler View Circuit Walk. This moderately challenging 6km loop offers a delightful escape for roughly 2.5 hours. For those driving from Armidale, navigate east on Waterfall Way for about 32 kilometers. Watch for the turnoff to Hillgrove and proceed south for another 17 kilometers. Remember, weather can impact road conditions. Check the forecast before your trip, especially if rain is expected, as the road can become boggy. Parking is readily available at the Longpoint Picnic Area (or campground), the starting point for the walk.
