The Springs to Lenah Valley is a 7.2 km, grade 4 hike in Lenah Valley, Tasmania, typically taking around 3.5 hours to complete.
This downhill walk offers a variety of attractions, including three historic huts, a lookout, and a waterfall. It's a great year-round family walk and is also suitable for those looking to bushwalk with their dogs (on a lead, of course).
Starting at The Springs, the Lenah Valley Track contours around the slope to Sphinx Rock, a sandstone platform that offers spectacular views of the Organ Pipes, Hobart, and the Derwent estuary. The route then passes three stone cabins, highlighting kunanyi / Mount Wellington’s rich history as a popular bushwalking destination. New Town Falls, though small, is an attractive spot to pause before completing the final part of the walk.
This is a one way hike so a car shuffle will be required. Alternatively, you can retrace your steps to make this a full day 14.4km hike.
Snowfalls can occur in Wellington Park at any time of the year so ensure to bring plenty of warm, waterproof clothing and sufficient water and food for the journey. Sections of this route can be slippery when covered in snow and ice.
