Purnululu National Park is the traditional homeland of the Gija and Jaru people. Their deep connection to this Country is reflected in the living landscape around you.

Located 304km from Kununurra and 160km from Halls Creek by road, the park covers 239,723 hectares and sits between the Purnululu Conservation Reserve and the Ord River Regeneration Reserve. At its core is the Bungle Bungle Range, a 45,000-hectare landscape of banded sandstone domes and deeply cut gorges.

The park is broadly divided into northern and southern sections, each offering a distinctly different experience. The northern end is defined by open woodland, spinifex hummocks, and narrow chasms edged with Livistona palms. This is where you will find places such as Echidna Chasm, Mini Palms Gorge, and Homestead Valley. The southern end is home to the well-known beehive domes, along with Cathedral Gorge and Piccaninny Creek.

Distances within the park are significant. It takes around 80 minutes to drive the 47km between the northern and southern areas, and there are 14 walking tracks spread across the range. Allow at least two nights to explore the park at a comfortable pace.

Purnululu National Park is generally open from April or May through to late November, depending on seasonal conditions. Always check current park alerts before visiting.
