It is rare in the world to find such a powerful place as the Leven Canyon, that is so easy to access. Enjoy spectacular sweeping views from Cruickshanks Lookout 275m above the Leven River. Alongside the track, discover ferns, brightly coloured fungi and native wildlife.
Highlights
Leven Canyon is a 250 metre deep ravine that is part of a wildlife corridor from the coast to Cradle Mountain. The Leven River runs through 300-metre limestone cliffs carved through the Loongana Range, down to Bass Strait.
The canyon is a little-known tourist destination in Tasmania. However, the viewing platform offers spectacular views of Black Bluff, the canyon itself and the surrounding areas. The viewing platform is only a short walk from the car park and only regular shoes are required.
Grade 3 (Moderate) - Walks for Most Fitness Levels: Grade 3 on the
AWTGS represents moderate walking tracks. These are ideal for walkers with some fitness who are comfortable with some hills and uneven terrain. While suitable for most ages, some bushwalking experience is recommended to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Tracks may have short, steep hill sections, a rough surface, and many steps. The total distance of a Grade 3 walk can be up to 20 kilometers.

Some steep terrain and 697 steps on the Forest Stairs track.
Supervise children , hazardous cliffs, tracks subject to severe weather conditions all year round, weather may change quickly, tracks are difficult to navigate when covered in snow and may be impassable,

Getting there
Getting to the trailhead: Leven Canyon Regional Reserve.
45 minute drive from Ulverstone (42km) or can be reached from Cradle Mountain, via Wilmot and the C132 route in 75 minutes.
