Fluted Cape Walk is a 6.6km, grade 3 hike located in the South Bruny National Park, Tasmania. The hike should take around 2.5 hrs to complete.
Hike overview
A rich history, spectacular scenery, close-up wildlife and a variety or walking opportunities make Bruny Island a wonderful destination. You can see a lot on a day trip but, if you can, stay overnight as there's plenty to see and do. The Grass Point walk is easy, will suit children and features some stunning coastal scenery.
Located within the South Bruny National Park, he Fluted Cape walk leaves from Grass Point and allows a circuit walk with impressive cliff and ocean views.
It is recommended to complete this hike in a clockwise direction. It’s a steeper ascent, but you at least get beautiful views of the sea cliffs and a lovely sea breeze when you do it in this direction and then descend through the bush.
Highlights
Grass Point is an open grassland where there are visible remains of structures associated with the bay whaling industry. Southern Right Whales have returned to Adventure Bay and can be seen during migration times, heading north from June to September and south from September to late October, along this section of the coast.
To Fluted Cape the track climbs steeply, staying close to the coastal cliffs providing spectacular views of Fluted Cape and the more distant Tasman Peninsula. Sea eagles may be seen along the cape soaring in the thermals.
