Hike overview
The Fishing Gap Fire Trail offers a challenging yet rewarding 7.7-kilometre return hike within Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, ACT. This moderately difficult grade 3 trail is ideal for experienced hikers seeking a workout, taking approximately 3 hours to complete.
The trail winds its way up a fire access track, offering a scenic journey through towering Mountain Gums and lush fern gullies. As you ascend, prepare for steeper sections with uneven terrain. The reward for your effort awaits at the Fishing Gap saddle, where you can take in panoramic views of the surrounding landscape before returning via the same route.
While the trail is technically achievable for most ages, a good level of fitness and some prior bushwalking experience are strongly recommended due to the steeper inclines and rough track surface. The starting point is conveniently located at the Fishing Gap car park.

Getting there
Getting to the trailhead: Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is located on Tidbinbilla Reserve Road, Paddys River, about 40km from the centre of Canberra. Nestled within the Tidbinbilla Valley and surrounded by Namadgi National Park, both the drive and destination are experiences in themselves. Tidbinbilla is an easy 45-minute drive south-west from the centre of Canberra. Access is off Paddys River Road, via Cotter Road (from North Canberra) or via Drakeford Drive, Woodcock Ave and Point Hut Crossing (from South Canberra).
