Hike overview
Enjoy an invigorating 21km, grade 3 hike from Fern Tree to Wellington Falls in Wellington Park, Tasmania, offering a rewarding outdoor adventure. This full-day hike typically takes around 6-7 hours to complete, making it an ideal option for those seeking a long but fulfilling day in nature.
While the entire hike is long and challenging, many opt to cycle the Pipeline Track before continuing on foot along the Wellington Falls Track to reach the lookout. Upon arriving at Wellington Falls, you have the option to return via the same route for a 24km round trip or complete the 21km circuit via The Springs.
The Pipeline Track offers a level and wide path, winding through shady wet forests and past gardens and homes nestled in the bush from Fern Tree to Neika. After Neika, the track joins the 4WD management track, leading through a series of spurs and gullies above the North West Bay River.
The Wellington Falls Track gently ascends, offering panoramic views across the valley to Cathedral Rock and Montague Thumbs. The lookout over the Falls is thoughtfully integrated into the landscape, providing a stunning vantage point to admire the natural beauty.
Tips
- Please note that due to the area's significant fauna values and its role as a drinking water catchment, dogs are prohibited from walking the entire length of this track.
- Snowfalls can occur in Wellington Park at any time of the year, potentially rendering the track slippery when covered in snow and ice.
- Be sure to come prepared with appropriate clothing and gear for a safe and enjoyable hike.
