Wave Rock Walk Circuit is a 3.6km, grade 1 hike located in the Hyden, Western Australia. The hike should take around 1.5 hrs to complete.
Hike overview
Read about Aboriginal and early settlement stories, the Birds, the night sky, and the weather on this 3.6 kilometre loop walk. The trail follows the short route to Hippo’s Yawn before branching out through expansive salt lakes. It goes past the resort before looping back to the cafe, shops and starting point at the Car Park. Bikes allowed.
For something completely different, a stroll along the well-formed Wave Rock Walk Circuit shows how salt affects the land. Despite its damaging nature to farmland, the salty landscape can be starkly beautiful. Skeleton looking dead trees dominate and provide a dramatic sight, especially around sunset or sunrise. After plenty of rain, the often dry lakes are transformed into a watery wonderland. Again, away from the salty areas, there are numerous wildflowers in spring. The trail is also suitable for bike riders. As with all official trails in the Hyden area, there is plenty of interpretive signage to inform the trail user. This walk is suitable for families with small children in prams and for visitors with bicycles. Enquire at the Wave Rock Kiosk about the quiz page available for children.

About the region
Head for Hyden to catch one of Australia's biggest waves - it's nowhere near the ocean, but it is home to world famous Wave Rock. Over 2,700 million years in the making, the wave rises 15 metres over the outback plain, which becomes a sea of colourful wildflower blooms in spring.
