Hike overview
The Wandarawari Track offers a 2.2-kilometre return walk through Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, ACT, suitable for most ages and fitness levels. This easy to moderate grade 2 trail takes approximately 45 minutes to complete.
Wandarawari translates to "place of warriors" in the Ngunnawal language, hinting at the cultural significance of this area. The loop trail delves into the connection between the Ngunnawal people and the distinctive grass trees that dot the landscape. A highlight of the walk is a magnificent stand of these ancient plants nestled beneath Gibraltar Peak. Interpretive signs educate visitors about the practice of cultural burning, a traditional land management technique used by First Peoples for generations. Along the way, enjoy pleasant views of the surrounding area.
The well-maintained track features gentle rolling hills and occasional steps. No prior bushwalking experience is required. The walk conveniently begins at the Dalsetta car park. Remember, the Wandarawari/grass tree site holds deep cultural importance for the Ngunnawal Traditional Custodians. Please respect their traditions by staying on designated paths, taking only memories, and leaving no rubbish behind.

Getting to the trailhead in Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve.Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve is located on Tidbinbilla Reserve Road, Paddys River, about 40km from the centre of Canberra. Nestled within the Tidbinbilla Valley and surrounded by Namadgi National Park, both the drive and destination are experiences in themselves. Tidbinbilla is an easy 45-minute drive south-west from the centre of Canberra. Access is off Paddys River Road, via Cotter Road (from North Canberra) or via Drakeford Drive, Woodcock Ave and Point Hut Crossing (from South Canberra).
