Just south of Arthur River, hidden within the rugged beauty of Tasmania’s wild west coast, lies Nelson Bay River Falls. This small but picturesque cascade tumbles over dark, weathered rocks, creating a peaceful scene surrounded by lush vegetation. The falls are located just west of the bridge that spans the Nelson Bay River, making them an easy and rewarding stop for those exploring the region.
Reaching the falls is effortless, with informal parking areas located just beyond the bridge. From there, a short and gentle walk of only a few minutes leads to a clear view of the cascading water. The track is unmarked but well-trodden, winding through a patch of coastal bushland before opening up to the river’s edge. The sound of rushing water grows louder with each step, guiding the way to this hidden gem.
Though small in scale, Nelson Bay River Falls holds a quiet charm, especially after rainfall when the water flows with greater intensity. The surrounding forest, dense with ferns and native trees, adds to the sense of seclusion, making this a perfect spot to pause and take in the natural beauty of Tasmania’s remote northwest. Whether stopping by on a longer journey or seeking a quick detour into nature, this short walk offers a refreshing break in one of the state’s most untamed landscapes.
