Farming Heritage Trail is a 18km, grade 2 hike located in the Regional Western Australia, Western Australia. The hike should take around 5 hrs to complete.
Hike summary
The Farming Heritage Trail runs through open agricultural scenery as it traces the route of the Eastern Railway opened in 1885 and closed in 1966.
This trail is an extension of the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail from Midland. The famous Goldfields Water Pipeline parallels some of the trail.
The "Golden Pipeline" is the longest fresh water pipeline in the world running 560 km from Mundaring Weir to Kalgoorlie. Built between 1898 and 1903, it is still in use. The pipeline was designed by CY O'Connor, the Government Engineer-in-Chief. Sadly O'Connor took his own life only a few weeks before the pipeline started operation.
The trail is managed by the Shire of Northam. Please report defects on the trail to Shire of Northamhttp://www.northam.wa.gov.au/
