The trail follows in the footsteps of Dom Rosendo Salvado, a Spanish Benedictine monk who walked from Perth to establish New Norcia. Today the trail Camino Salvado leaves from the suburb of Subiaco. It starts as an urban walk, follows the Swan River and passes through National Parks and rural landscapes before arriving in New Norcia
What began in 2009 as a one-off idea to walk from Subiaco to New Norcia in Western Australia, has now evolved into a permanent walking trail open to everyone. The Pilgrim Trail is about storytelling, and once you've walked its 202 kilometres, you will have your own story to tell too. It began with the idea of taking time out to think about who we are and where we are going in our lives - The Journey.nIt was established in the spirit of Dom Rosendo Salvado, a Spanish Benedictine who came to serve the Indigenous people in the early Swan River Settlement - The Inspiration.nAnd we discovered so many stories that recounted the friendships between so many different people from so many different cultures - The Spirituality. The Pilgrim Trail not only links the city with the bush, it also links us to our past and to our future, and I invite you to leave your footprint in the story of The Pilgrim Trail.
