Hike overview
The Lake Tyers Cliff Top Walk is a gentle and rewarding 6.5-kilometre trail set within the Lakes Entrance–Lake Tyers Coastal Reserve in eastern Victoria. Ideal for walkers of most fitness levels, this track typically takes between two and three hours to complete at a relaxed pace. It's graded as a level 2 circuit, which makes it a comfortable option for those looking to spend a few peaceful hours immersed in the natural coastal landscape.
The trail begins at the Red Bluff car park, located at the end of Red Bluff Road. Though the parking area is modest in size, it provides a convenient entry point to the walk. From here, the path traces the clifftops, revealing sweeping views over Lake Tyers Beach and the open expanse of the ocean beyond. On calm days, the rhythmic sound of waves crashing below adds to the meditative pace of the journey.
As you follow the well-formed trail eastward along the cliffs, you’ll come across interpretive signs sharing insights into the area’s geology, native plants, and local wildlife. These thoughtful additions give walkers a deeper sense of connection to the landscape. A few benches are tucked along the way, offering places to pause and take in the layered textures of sand, sea, and scrub that define this part of Victoria’s coast.
Eventually, the trail descends to the beach, where the character of the walk shifts. If the tide is low, the beach section provides firm, easy walking with plenty of space to enjoy the changing light and salty air. Depending on your preference, you can return the way you came along the clifftops or complete the loop by continuing along the beach back towards your starting point. Alternatively, the track can be tackled as a one-way route, with the option to start from the Lake Tyers Beach end instead.
The Lake Tyers Cliff Top Walk offers that satisfying blend of gentle exercise, natural beauty, and quiet coastal charm. It’s well-suited to those seeking a low-key outing that still delivers a strong sense of place—ideal for slowing down, soaking up the views, and appreciating the quieter corners of Victoria’s coastline.

1 Review on “Lake Tyers Cliff Top Walk (6.5km)”
An excellent walk that we stumbled across by accident when visiting Lake Tyers. We actually walked from Lake Tyers Beat to Red Bluff and returned along the beach but it appears the usual route is starting at Red Bluff. Doesn’t matter either way. The views are great along the cliff top.
