Overview

Woodgate is the coastal section of Burrum Coast National Park beside Woodgate Beach township, around 230km north-north-west of Brisbane and south of Bundaberg. This part of the park sits in a broader protected coastal landscape of dunes, wetlands, tea-tree swamps and river edges, with the Gregory River and Burrum River shaping much of its character. It feels different from Queensland’s better known headland and mountain parks. Here, the appeal is in low sandy country, quiet water and long stretches of undeveloped coast.

The Woodgate section is one of four sections that make up Burrum Coast National Park, created when the former Kinkuna, Woodgate and Burrum River national parks were brought together. That larger setting helps explain why the area feels so varied, shifting from beach and foredune country to paperbark wetlands and riverfront habitat within a relatively small part of the coast.
