Remnant Bushland in the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges

Overview

Mylor Conservation Park sits in the Southern Mount Lofty Ranges, near Mylor and about 15 kilometres south east of Adelaide. In a part of the hills that has been widely cleared for farming and rural living, it protects an important patch of native vegetation and forms part of a broader network of remnant bushland linked by vegetation corridors across public and private land.

The appeal here is in the park’s quiet bushland character rather than dramatic landmarks. Creeks and watercourses thread through the reserve, and the mix of slopes, gullies and open woodland gives it that distinctive Adelaide Hills feel, with native vegetation still intact in a landscape that has otherwise changed heavily around it.

Best Time to Visit

The cooler months are usually the most pleasant time to be out in Mylor Conservation Park, when the hills are greener and the creeklines and sheltered gullies feel at their best. Spring is especially rewarding for bird activity and fresh growth through the understorey, while autumn can also be a good choice for mild walking weather.

Plants and Animals

This park helps conserve native bushland in the central Adelaide Hills and supports a good range of birdlife. Western grey kangaroos are regularly seen here, and east of the city this kind of remnant vegetation is especially valuable because it keeps habitat connected across a fragmented landscape.

The vegetation is part of a broader hills mosaic that includes woodland and creekline habitat, with watercourses such as Aldgate Creek and Leslie Creek passing through the reserve before joining the Onkaparinga River system nearby.
