Mount Evelyn Recreation Reserve sits in Mount Evelyn on Melbourne’s outer eastern fringe, in the Yarra Ranges. Although it functions as an important local recreation space, it is more than just playing fields and open lawns. The reserve also includes walking trails and a stretch of Olinda Creek along its edge, giving the place a noticeably greener, more natural character than many suburban reserves.

The reserve’s environmental interest centres on its remnant bushland and the vegetation along Olinda Creek. This riparian setting supports local wildlife and gives the area much of its ecological value within the township.

Platypus have been sighted in the creek, which is a striking sign of the waterway’s condition. The reserve is also known as habitat for the Powerful Owl, with these birds recorded in and around the bushland by the creek.
