Discover the Trails and Natural Beauty of Kundip Nature Reserve

Located around 15 kilometres southwest of Ravensthorpe in Western Australia, Kundip Nature Reserve spans 21.7 square kilometres and is a vital conservation area. Established in 1971, the reserve sits within the Esperance Plains bioregion, known for its stunning variety of plant life and habitats.

This reserve is home to a remarkable diversity of flora and fauna, including about 1,000 hectares of mature salmon gum woodland. This unique habitat is essential for many species, making it a vital area for wildlife conservation. Walking through these woodlands, you’ll experience the beauty of the landscape, with its mix of open spaces and dense bushland. The reserve’s plant communities provide a natural refuge for a range of animals, many of which are adapted to the region’s climate.

The area also has a rich history, having been a mining site in the early 20th century. Gold and copper extraction were once prevalent, with the Harbour View mine operating intermittently from 1900 to 1941. The nearby Mount Iron mine was also active during this time. Today, remnants of these old mining activities add a layer of historical intrigue to the otherwise tranquil reserve.

For those passionate about conservation or simply eager to explore a new area, Kundip Nature Reserve offers ample opportunities for bushwalking and nature study. It serves as a crucial site for ecological research and education, contributing to ongoing efforts to protect the region’s biodiversity. The reserve’s location, close to the Fitzgerald River National Park and the Ravensthorpe Range, further boosts its environmental importance.

If you’re looking for walks or hikes with a mix of natural beauty, historical interest, and biodiversity, Kundip Nature Reserve provides a perfect setting. Whether you’re an experienced hiker or looking for a more casual bushwalk, this area is a rewarding place to explore.
