Greenhill Recreation Park: A Suburban Sanctuary

Greenhill Recreation Park, located just 7 kilometres east of Adelaide, South Australia, offers a tranquil escape from urban life. Established as a national pleasure resort in 1952 and subsequently reclassified as a recreation park in 1972, the area has a rich history intertwined with the development of Adelaide.

Covering 24 hectares, the park is characterised by open woodland dominated by eucalyptus trees, with an understorey of introduced grasses and wildflowers. While the park’s vegetation has been influenced by past land use, including grazing and bushfires, it remains a valuable green space within the metropolitan area.

Visitors to Greenhill Recreation Park can enjoy the park’s scenic beauty and panoramic views of the Adelaide Plains. While opportunities for extensive walks or hikes are limited within the park itself, its proximity to other natural areas, such as Chambers Gully and Cleland National Park, provides access to a wider range of outdoor experiences.
