The Wineglass Bay and Hazards Beach Circuit is a Family friendly loop track that combines most of the popular shorter walks like Wineglass Bay and Hazards Beach. Most of the trail is fairly flat except for the steep climb up to Wineglass Bay lookout but its well paved with steps and not too difficult. The lookout gives you amazing views of Wineglass Bay, Mt Graham and Mt Freycinet. After the lookout you descend a natural staircase to the spectacular Wineglass Bay beach. Its then a flat trail across the Isthmus through Baksia, She-Oak and Coastal Gum forest and crossing a boardwalk over the lagoon. A short clamber over a dune brings you to the beautiful Hazards Beach which is safe for swimming. Walk along the sandy beach to pick up the trail which then follows the peninsula affording stunning views of the coastline back to the carpark. This walk is the best day walk in Freycinet and incorporates spectacular beaches, amazing views and lovely coastal vegetation.
Driving is the easiest and takes around 2.5 hours from both Launceston and Hobart.
- During the peak like summer, holidays and weekends the park is extremely popular so get there early 8am to 9am to get a spot in the car park otherwise you will have a long walk back to your car! You also avoid the crowds with the walk up to the lookout.
- Pack a bathing suit as there are swimming opportunities at Hazzards Beach. The northern end of Wineglass is a little rough so I wouldn’t swim there.
- Pack bug spray for the summer months as mosquitoes and March flies can be a pest.
- Take enough water with you for the entire hike as there is no freshwater along the way.
