Hike overview
Mount Abrupt (Mud-Dadjug) is a moderately challenging (grade 4) 6.5km hike in Grampians National Park, Victoria, waiting to test your endurance and reward you with stunning views. This incredible journey takes roughly 2.5 hours to complete and winds its way through diverse landscapes. Prepare to traverse heathy woodland, navigate across rock slabs, and conquer sections of stunted montane vegetation – all part of the adventure.
The true reward awaits at the summit. Here, you'll be greeted by one of the most breathtaking panoramas in Gariwerd (Grampians). Take in the vastness of the Serra Range stretching out to the north, and admire the picturesque town of Dunkeld nestled to the south. Keep your binoculars handy, as this vantage point is also a prime spot for birdwatching. Soar high with the majestic wedge-tailed eagles, or witness the agility of nankeen kestrels and peregrine falcons.
This hike demands a good level of fitness. The trail can present challenges like small water crossings, slippery surfaces due to loose rock or rain, sections requiring rock hopping, and even some light rock scrambling. Be sure to come prepared with suitable footwear and clothing for these conditions.
The Mount Abrupt (Mud-Dadjug) track forms part of The Grampians Peaks Trail (GPT), a multi-day adventure for those who want to truly immerse themselves in the Grampians. It's also incorporated into the shorter Djardji-Djawara & Mud-Dadjug Hike (day 12 of the GPT).

A very pleasant hike that takes a lot less than 3 hours. If you’re fit and in a hurry, you could easily do it in 2.
At a moderate pace, stopping to take in the views (and catch your breath) it’s about 2 1/4 hours (about 80 minutes up, less than 60 minutes back).
Great 365 degree views on a wintery day; would be baking hot and pretty exposed at the peak during summer. So take plenty of water and enjoy some great views north across the Grampians.
if we venture to the Grampians soon Bec Louise
