Summary

Western Creek Falls is the unofficial name given to the waterfalls found on Western Creek on the Great Western Tiers. The waterfall has two distinct tiers, and has an overall height of approximately 20 metres.

Western Creek Falls is accessed via Western Creek Track, a well established track that ascends to the highlands above. The hike commences on the Western Creek Loop walk, a scenic walk uphill that meanders through very pretty forest. After approximately 45 minutes of steady walking, the track branches southwards towards the waterfall, with the alternate branch circling back towards the carpark. Continue climbing uphill towards the waterfall, and after another 20 minutes of hiking, you should reach the waterfall. The walking track crosses above the bottom tier of the waterfall, giving you a close up view of the top tier.

A wire mounted from both sides of the creek provides a steady anchor to hold on to when crossing the creek at this point. To see the full view of both tiers of Western Creek Falls, a careful scramble to the base of the waterfall is required. However, it is steep and slippery, and excellent dexterity is required to work your way to the bottom safely.

Along the loop walk, the western side of the loop runs parallel to Western Creek, with other small cascades and waterfalls available to be seen from above.

How to get to Western Creek Falls

From Deloraine, travel south west to Western Creek (town) and locate Westrope Road. Drive along Westrope Road for approximately 8kms following the signs to Western Creek Track. At the commencement of the Western Creek loop is ample space for carparking. You can commence your walk at the track next to the Western Creek Loop signage, or slightly back up the road where another sign for Western Creek Track is located.
