Situated in a section of Wellington Park, Myrtle Forest Falls is a lovely tiered waterfall within Myrtle Forest, near Collinsvale in southern Tasmania. The hiking track begins at the new carpark area where a locked vehicle access gate is situated, with a gentle 15 minute stroll to the picnic area. From the picnic area, a number of tracks are provided to different parts of Wellington Park, with the track to Myrtle Forest Falls taking only 15 minutes to walk.
The track meanders steadily uphill, and is slippery at times, especially in the winter. At the end of the track, is a lookout area at where you can view the top tier of the waterfall. There is no official track to the base of the falls.
Community and Management Initiatives
Despite the natural beauty of Myrtle Forest, and Myrtle Forest Falls, misuse and abuse of the park and its facilities resulted in community and management initiative to try and protect Wellington Park, and Myrtle Forest. With consultation with the community, Glenorchy City Council, Parks and Wildlife Service, the University of Tasmania, and the Tasmanian Conservative Trust, the Myrtle Forest Site Development Plan has recommended improvements to the area, some of which have received State government funding to implement. More information regarding the Site Development Plan can be found on the Wellington Park website.
