The Summit Loop in Knocklofty Reserve offers a fantastic 4 km, grade 4 hike through open forest, conveniently close to the city center. This trail is popular with dog walkers and bike riders.
The loop takes you past many of Knocklofty’s highlights. At the Frog Ponds, the Friends of Knocklofty Bushcare Group have transformed a disused dam into a vibrant wetland habitat. Pause here and listen for the diverse frog calls. Various vantage points along the walk provide stunning views of the city, kunanyi / Mount Wellington, and the Derwent estuary. With over 300 native plant species in this beloved reserve, there's always something in bloom.
This hike typically takes around 2 hours to complete, making it a perfect escape into nature without venturing far from the urban environment.
