The magnificent Cradle Mountain – Lake St. Clair National Park is home to many waterfalls, with Crater Falls being the first waterfall on the famous Overland Track when walking from Cradle Mountain to Lake St. Clair. The hike commences from the Ronny Creek carpark. It is recommended that you sign the log book, and sign your intentions for your trip into the World Heritage region. Once signed in, you cross the road, and immediately commence walking on the overland track. The hike commences along purpose built boardwalks, but soon turns into a very well maintained walking track. After walking for about 1.2 kms the track branches into two separate routes. The left hand track is the one that needs to be taken, which takes you to Crater Falls, Crater Lake, with side tracks that take you to other landmarks within the World Heritage Area, such as Dove Lake and Marions Lookout.

Alpine Goodness

Cradle Mountain – Lake St Clair National Park is situated in the alpine regions of Tasmania, with Crater Lake situated at approximately 1000 metres above sea level. Due to the high altitude, snow can occur at any time of the year (including summer), and weather conditions can change dramatically fast at any time. It is highly recommended that suitable clothing, as wellas a change of clothing, is carried.
