Carry lightweight food. Some suggestions for lightweight food during a hike are sandwiches, fruit, muesli bars, nuts, chocolate and scroggin. Ideally, the food should be light weight and also travel well in a pack.
After a hike it is important to hydrate properly as soon as possible. High protein foods are also good to aid in muscle recovery.

Light weight is good. But don’t neglect nutrition either. If you’re hiking you will start to crave vitimin C. Also, you need higher levels of protein to build and repair muscle. And don’t forget fibre. It is so vital. If you’re trying to live on noodles and biscuits for a few days you are going to clag up like a bulldog in a bait bucket.

Does anyone know where/if you can buy tuna in a bag (like in the photo) in Australia?
I’m pretty sure I have seen it on Catch. http://m.catch.com.au/product/12x-safcol-tuna-extvirg-olv-oil-pouch-100g-188757/
