Hike Summary

Penguin Island is a magnet for nature lovers and is home to the largest colony of Little Penguins (also known as Fairy Penguins). The trail starts at the Penguin Experience Island Discovery Centre and allows walkers to experience close encounters with the flora and fauna.

It features a mud map and other information to help you discover and learn about the plants and animals of the island.Commentaries and feeding of the little penguins in the Discovery Center occurs at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm.Whilst on the island, you can snorkel, surf, swim, windsurf and have a picnic - however, it’s important to stick to the walk trails and demarcated beaches only as the island is a Bird sanctuary. To access Penguin Island, drive or take the train to Rockingham.  Rockingham Wild Encounters operate the only ferry that leaves from here for the five minute ferry ride to the island. About the region

Blessed with white sandy beaches and surrounded by crystal clear waters, Penguin Island is just 30 minutes south of Perth and lies a five minute ferry ride away in the heart of the ruggedly spectacular Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. The wildlife is the star attraction. Join us for a cruise to see wild dolphins and rare Australian sea lions before getting up close with the world’s smallest penguins! Island rangers present penguin feedings at 10.30am, 12.30pm & 2.30pm daily. Getting here is easy with ferries departing hourly from 9am to 3pm. Spend as long, or as little as you like to swim, snorkel, picnic and explore the nature trails and beaches before catching a return ferry at your leisure.
