The Tall Gum Short Walk in Golden Valley Tree Park, Balingup, celebrates the majesty of Australia’s tall eucalypt trees. Living up to its name, this trail is the shortest and easiest to negotiate at only 650 metres. Many of these trees were planted in 1987, but even so they are already reaching impressive heights.
Along the way you will see mountain gums from Victoria and New South Wales, shining gums from Tasmania, silvertop ash from New South Wales and Victoria, broadleafed peppermint from New South Wales and Victoria. There are other species of tall eucalypts, all well spaced so they will eventually grow to their full potential. An interpretive sign showing a 114-metre eucalypt superimposed against the 67-metre high Sydney Opera House effectively shows how massive these trees can get.
