Hike overview
Table Top Mountain rises 700m above sea level. The mountain is renowned for its flat peak on which, for some unknown reason, no trees grow. Table Top Park is one of the smaller escarpment parks, but it's definitely one of the best. Table Top mountain on the edge of Toowoomba, provides views of the Lockyer Valley and surround. The climb itself can be quite demanding with a lot of large steps over the Camel's Hump and a scramble just before the summit. But the reward at the top, with a circuit all the way around, provides a spectacular view.
The walk starts at the base of the first hill which is comprised of a lot of large stone steps. This section is quite steep for about 150m. The down section of the first hill is less demanding but you have to climb over medium sized rocks. The face of Tabletop is mostly large lose gravel and exposed rocks towards the summit. There is a circuit at the summit of the mountain that takes you all the way around the mountain top showing off an exceptional view.
Tips
- The climb is short, but steep and hard.
- Can be muddy and/or slippery in rain.
- Have a backback - two hands come in handy with scramble.
- Lots of unstable and uneven surfaces.
- May not be suitable for children.
- The path is not marked, but easy to follow.

Getting there
Getting to the trailhead: Table Top Bushland Reserve.
From Toowoomba follow South Street south until it becomes Tabletop Drive. Continue to follow Tabletop Driver until it turns into a dirt track. At the end of which is the entrance to the walk and areas to park. If you are navigating with Google Maps, it will want to take you to the WRONG end of Tabletop Drive (that’s at the bottom of the range with no access to the mountain), so use coordinates to set navigation point.

About the region

Views range from Prince Henry Heights to the north, the Lockyer Valley to the east and the rugged folds of Main Range in the south and the city of Toowoomba in the west. Please leave your pets at home.
