Hike overview
Embrace the stunning landscapes of Wilsons Promontory National Park by embarking on the 12.5-kilometer Squeaky Beach, Pillar Point, Norman Bay circuit. This moderately challenging hike takes you through diverse terrain, including coastal heathland, rocky outcrops, and pristine beaches.
Commence at Tidal River Visitor Centre and follow Loo Errn Track
Your journey begins at the Tidal River Visitor Centre, where you can park your car and gather information about the hike. From here, follow the Loo Errn Track along the south bank of Tidal River, enjoying the tranquility of the picturesque waterway. Cross the Tidal River footbridge, taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Hike to Pillar Point
Continue along the well-maintained track until you reach the junction of the Tidal Overlook Track and the Squeaky Beach Track. Turn right and embark on the Tidal Overlook Track, gradually ascending through the coastal heathland. Keep an eye out for the diverse flora and fauna that inhabit this unique ecosystem.
As you climb, stunning views of Norman Beach and Tidal River stretch out before you. Capture these memorable scenes with your camera or simply breathe in the serenity of the surroundings.
Reach the junction of the Squeaky Beach Track and the Tidal Overland Track. Turn left and proceed along the Squeaky Beach Track towards Pillar Point. Marvel at the rugged granite boulders that form Pillar Point, providing panoramic vistas of the coastline.
Descend to Squeaky Beach
Retrace your steps back to the junction of the Squeaky Beach Track. Turn left and descend along the western side of the headland, embracing the coastal scenery. Arrive at Squeaky Beach, a true gem of Wilsons Promontory. Feel the unique squeaking sensation beneath your feet as you stroll along the pristine white sand. Take a refreshing dip in the turquoise waters of Squeaky Beach, soaking up the idyllic atmosphere.
Return to Tidal River Visitor Centre
Retrace your steps once again, ascending the headland from the beach back to the junction of the Pillar Point, Squeaky Beach, and Tidal Overland Tracks. Continue east over the headland, enjoying the coastal vistas that unfold.
Upon reaching the Tidal River footbridge, you can choose to head through the camping area and back to your starting point at the Tidal River Visitor Centre. Alternatively, take some time to explore the final stretches of Tidal River and wander around onto Norman Bay.
Walk to the end of Norman Beach and locate the Norman Bay South Track on your left. Follow this track along its length, enjoying the coastal scenery, until you reach the Tidal River Visitors Centre, completing your memorable hike.

Getting there
Wilsons Promontory National Park is approximately three hours drive from Melbourne. Follow the Monash Freeway (M1) to join the South Gippsland Freeway (M420/A440) to Meeniyan. Take the Meeniyan- Promontory Road (C444) to the Wilsons Promontory Entrance. Tidal River Visitor Centre is 30km south of the park entrance. There is no fuel at Tidal River. The closest fuel outlet is at Yanakie.
