Six Foot Track is a 45km, grade 4 hike located in the Blue Mountains National Park, New South Wales. The hike should take around 3 days to complete.
Hike summary
The Six Foot Track is an iconic trail in the Blue Mountains, travelling from Katoomba to Jenolan Caves on an old route. It was named the Six Foot Track because of its width, allowing horses to easily pass. This walk can be done as a multi-day hike over 2 or 3 days, camping at Cox's River, Alum Creek, Black Range campsites. It can also be done with luggage transfer, staying at Eco Lodge. For the fit, it makes a great 1 day endurance challenge - a number of walking groups do this challenge annually. The very fit can run it in the Six Foot Track Ultra-Marathon.

Getting there
Transport options include: car to start, with a very long car shuffle. A better option is car to start at Katoomba, and then catch the daily bus from Jenolan back. Note that the bus option will require a night at Jenolan - a variety of accommodation is available at Caves House, and a campsite is nearby. Katoomba can also be reached by train, with a cab ride to the start. The walk can also be done in reverse.
Let someone know before you go
It’s a good idea to let someone know where you’re going. Fill in a trip intention form to send important details about your trip to your emergency contact. If you are lost or require help and have phone reception, call 000 and ask for police. The international standard emergency number is 112, if you dial this number in Australia you will be treated exactly the same as a 000 call. If you believe your life is at risk, activate your personal locator beacon (PLB), then make your position visible to rescue teams and keep warm and dry.
