Jarnem Walk is a 7km, grade 3 hike located in the Keep River National Park, Northern Territory. The hike should take around 3 hrs to complete.
Hike overview
This small park contains a diversity of landscapes and visitors can explore sandstone ridges and 'Bungle Bungle-like' formations from the campgrounds. Jarnem offers a long loop walk that can be split into two shorter return walks, including the Jarnem Lookout Walk that is particularly stunning in the soft light of early morning and late afternoon.
The park falls within Aboriginal lands of the Miriwoong and Gadgerong people. Nganalam Art Site shows some of the rock art characteristic of the area while Ginger's Hill and Jinumum reveal other aspects of traditional Aboriginal culture. The unsealed road in Keep River National Park may be corrugated and it may also be inaccessible at times due to flooding between November and April.

About the region
Keep River National Park
Keep River National Park is one of the Northern Territory's (Northern Territory) best kept secrets. It's home to geological wonders and sites that reveal ancient Aboriginal rock art. The city of striped sandstone structures, which can be likened to the Bungle Bungles in Western Australia (WA), are best seen on the 7km Jarnem Walk. There is also rock art at Nigli Gap and on the Jenamoom Walk you can see more ancient Aboriginal paintings and shell middens. Keep River National Park is on the traditional lands of the Miriwoong and Garjirrabeng people. There are saltwater crocodiles in all waterways in the Keep River National Park. Do not swim and Be Crocwise at all times.
