Has anyone had to activate their PLB?

I have just purchased a PLB and am wondering if there is anyone who’s had to activate theirs. Can you share your experience?

Thankfully not. I have been a bit slack and haven’t even tested it yet. I need to get around to doing that as there’s no point carrying it if I can’t be sure it’ll work.

Thankfully I’ve never had to activate mine either but it is important to test it. At the risk of preaching to the converted, it’s essential to activate a PLB only in genuine emergency situations when your safety or the safety of others is at risk (IE life threatening). False activation can divert resources away from real emergencies and may result in penalties. Additionally, it’s crucial to register your PLB with the appropriate authorities and keep your registration information up to date to expedite the rescue process.
