Explore the Yarra State Forest: A Natural Escape
Located approximately 80 kilometres east of Melbourne, the Yarra State Forest offers a diverse range of experiences for nature enthusiasts. Known for its towering mountain ash forests, the region boasts a rich tapestry of native vegetation beyond this iconic tree species.
The forest provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, with a variety of walks, bushwalks, and hikes suitable for all fitness levels. Picnic areas and campgrounds are scattered throughout the park, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. Powelltown, Starlings Gap, Seven Acre Rock, Big Pats Creek, Latrobe River, and Ada Tree offer picnic facilities, while Latrobe River and Starlings Gap provide camping options with basic amenities. Please note that camping is on a first-come, first-served basis.
To reach the Yarra State Forest, travel along the Maroondah Highway to Lilydale, then turn right onto the Warburton Highway. At Yarra Junction, turn right to reach Powelltown, where you can access the forest and its amenities. Alternatively, continue through Yarra Junction to Warburton to visit the Water Wheel Tourist Information Centre for further information.
