Discover the Trails of Warrandyte State Park

Warrandyte State Park, situated just 24 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, is an accessible destination for those seeking outdoor activities close to the city. Located within the traditional Country of the Wurundjeri Peoples, the park offers a range of experiences for picnickers, bushwalkers, canoeists, birdwatchers, and those looking for tranquillity.

The popular Pound Bend area features a pleasant picnic spot surrounded by manna gums along the Yarra River. Visitors can use the picnic tables or bring their own blankets. Facilities include toilets, a canoe launching ramp, and easy walking trails suitable for those with limited mobility. The Pound Bend River Walk, a 2.4-kilometre loop taking about an hour, follows the river upstream through riparian forest and opens up to a grassland where Eastern Grey Kangaroos are commonly seen.

Jumping Creek provides another excellent picnic location near the Yarra River, with tables, a shelter, and toilets available. For a more adventurous outing, visitors can launch a canoe or explore the moderately challenging Jumping Creek Nature Trail. This 3.5-kilometre trail, taking approximately two hours, offers a diverse range of landscapes, from rocky cliffs to riverine forest, with Blue Tongue Bend being a notable highlight.

Fourth Hill is renowned for its spring wildflower display. The Fourth Hill Gold Heritage Circuit Walk, a 1.5-kilometre circuit taking around 1.5 hours, guides visitors through historic sites and remnants from the gold rush era.

For those seeking a more strenuous hike, the Mount Lofty Circuit Walk is an ideal choice. This 4.7-kilometre circuit, which takes about 2.5 hours, starts at Wittons Reserve in Wonga Park. The walk ascends steeply to Mount Lofty, the highest point in the park, offering breathtaking views of the Yarra River, Yarra Valley, and Dandenong-Yarra Ranges.

Access to Warrandyte State Park is via Heidelberg-Warrandyte Road, Research-Warrandyte Road, and Ringwood-Warrandyte Road.
