Hike Summary
Woody Island is an 'A’ Class Reserve and one of more than 100 islands and islets that make up the Recherche Archipelago, a chain of islands stretching 230km from Esperance to the Great Australian Bight. The island is named for its stands of tall trees, a rare sight in this archipelago.
This walk start at the Woody Island Visitors Centre. You can take a free guided walk to a clearing overlooking this historic spot and learn about the story behind the name of Twiggy's Landing. Continue along the path past the clearing to the Shearwater Lookout . From the lookout you can watch for adult flesh-footed shearwaters returning to their nesting burrows at dusk during their summer breeding season.
