The Pinnacle and Devils Gap is an 18.3km, grade 5 hike located in Grampians National Park, Victoria. The hike should take around 7 hours to complete.
Warning
The trail via Devlis Gap is now closed with the lower reaches passing through private property.
Hike overview
The Pinnacle and Devils Gap circuit is a challenging hike for experienced hikers (and rock scramblers). The circuit commences in Halls Gap and follows a well made trail to Venus Baths. Cross the creek at the baths and ascend the rock face knows as 'the elephant hide' to the summit of Mackey's Peak. After exploring the peak descend to the saddle south of the peak to join the trail that traverses below the ridge line past Sunshine Point and on the The Pinnacle. Enjoy the views overlooking Halls Gap before joining the Sundial carpark trail over Bellfield Peak. As you descend from the peak you will encounter a sign posted trail junction. At this point you will turn east to locate the closed trail that descends down through Devils Gap. As this trail is no longer maintained and was closed some time ago you will need excellent navigation skills in order to find your way through the cliff lines and dense scrub to Pinnacle Road, opposite the National Park Visitors Centre. Be mindful of private property in this section.
From the visitors centre follow the Fyans Creek trail north towards Halls Gap until you reach Tandara Road. Turn right at this point and follow the signposted trail past Peverill peak to the summit of Borinia Peak.
After taking in the views overlooking Halls Gap to the west and the volcanic plains to the east, descend back down to the Fyans Creek trail and follow it along its length to Grampians Road. Turning right, follow the main road back to your start point in Halls Gap.

Great hike. The section through Devils gap is not easy to follow so good navigation is required
Hiked thru there for 7 days solo in 1980. Camp fire, camp anywhere. Take nothing but photos – Leave nothing but footprints. The good old days.
Great, thanks, I will try that! Do I need an app for it?
Just a note to anyone thinking of doing this. The track via Devils Gap has not been maintained for years and is likely to be non existent. You will need good navigation skills and be prepared for some off trail bush bashing
Kristina Serpentina the GPX file is on my site. You can just download and follow that
Kristina Serpentina all you need is an app that allows you to import GPX files.
