Mullewa Bushland Trail is a 2.4km, grade 2 hike located in Geraldton, Western Australia. The hike should take around 1.25 hours to complete.
Hike overview
Mullewa is a small wheat-belt town, about an hours drive out of Geraldton. It has several nature and cultural walk trails. One of the best for views and wildflowers is the 2.4km loop, the Mullewa Bushland Trail. It starts and finishes at the Mullewa Scenic Lookout.
When travelling through wheatbelt country south east of Geraldton in springtime, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy magnificent wildflowers. Much of this floral splendour can be seen from the car and occasional roadside stops. Much better still is to get out on foot and really get amongst it. One of the best towns to see wildflowers from is Mullewa. Almost right in town is the Mullewa Bushland Trail. Starting from the Mullewa Scenic Lookout, the winding loop takes the visitor along an, at times rocky, but not too steep hike. Surprisingly, there are even small caves in rocky outcrops. There are good views of the surrounding farnland and town. Interperative signage in places tells of the indigenous culture of the area. When winter rains are good, the spring wildflowers are absolutely sensational. Besides carpets of everlastings, there are numerous other species.
