Mt Tennent is a 15km, grade 4 hike located in Namadgi National Park, Australian Capital Territory. The hike should take around 6 hours to complete.
Hike overview
The Mount Tennent trail is a challenging walk with magnificent views. Start from the Namadgi Visitor Centre after hours car park, walk along the Woodland Walk, then on the Mount Tennent Track to Cypress Pine Lookout (4.5 km return). Continue up the steep track to the fire trail that leads to the summit. You can also start at the locked gate on the Apollo Road (first 1 km on private property) following the Mount Tennent fire trail.

Getting there
From Tharwa, continue south and turn left to the Namadgi National Park Visitors Centre. It is 2.5km south of Tharwa Bridge. From the Canberra and Region Visitors Centre return to Commonwealth Avenue, continue south crossing over Commonwealth Bridge, around Parliament House then take the left turn after the Royal Australian Mint exit onto the Cotter Road overpass. Turn left onto Tuggeranong Parkway and remain on this road (with its various name changes) through to Tharwa.

Namadgi covers 106,095 hectares, with 160 kilometres of marked walking tracks. Visit the Namadgi Visitor Centre to get expert advice and see displays and audiovisuals. The Visitor's Centre is open 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays and 9 am to 4.30 pm on weekends and public holidays. It is closed Christmas Day.

Tough in parts with lots of steps, but rewarding with beautiful views at the summit. Bring plenty of water, none available on the trek.
