Monaro Rail Trail is a 214km, grade 3 One Way hike located in Country NSW and ACT New South Wales. The hike should take approximately 15 days to complete.

Summary

This is a proposed rail trail and is not yet open. It is one of the potential Rail Trails identified throughout NSW.

The Australian Railway Historical Society (ACT Division) once had operating rights from Queanbeyan to Michelago, though no trains have run since 2006. The Cooma Monaro Railway has rail motors which it ran until recently between Cooma and Chakola.

A group of locals recently formed Monaro Rail Trail Inc to work on making parts of this line rail trails and possibly rail-side trails or diversions if tourist railways are likely to operate in the future.
