Discover the Trails of Serpentine National Park

Set on the Darling Scarp, just 55 kilometres southeast of Perth, Serpentine National Park has been a favourite escape for nearly a century. Acknowledging the Binjareb/Pinjarup, Ganeang, and Wilman people as the Traditional Owners of this land, the park offers a chance to step away from the city’s pace and experience Western Australia’s natural beauty.

The Serpentine River winds through rugged terrain, shaping the landscape and carving out the park’s most well-known attraction—Serpentine Falls. After autumn and winter rains, water tumbles over smooth granite, pooling into a deep, rock-lined basin below. The sight and sound of the falls, especially after heavy rainfall, make this a must-visit spot. But beyond the falls, the park has plenty more to explore, with a network of walks, hikes, and bushwalks that showcase its diverse landscapes.

The steep slopes of the Serpentine River Valley provide the perfect setting for all trails, whether you’re looking for a short, relaxed walk or something more challenging. Keep an eye out for native wildlife—western grey kangaroos are often seen in the early morning or late afternoon, while birdwatchers might spot red-capped parrots, western rosellas, black cockatoos, and yellow robins. With over 70 bird species recorded in the area, it’s a great place to slow down and appreciate the smaller details of the bush.

Spring brings a spectacular display of wildflowers, with the best blooms appearing between July and November. September is the peak of the season, when the park’s woodlands and hillsides burst into colour with native orchids, banksias, and kangaroo paws. This makes it one of the most rewarding times of year for a hike or bushwalk, with trails winding through vibrant floral landscapes.

Whether you’re after a challenging hike, a peaceful walk, or a family-friendly bushwalk, Serpentine National Park has something to offer.
