Anstey Hill Recreation Park: A Foothills Oasis

Anstey Hill Recreation Park, located approximately 16 kilometres northeast of Adelaide in South Australia, offers a diverse range of experiences for visitors. Explore a vast network of walking trails suitable for families, casual walkers, or fitness enthusiasts. Mountain bikers can challenge themselves on eight trails varying in difficulty.

Discover the park’s unique features, including the historic ruins of Newman’s Nursery, a vibrant bird population, and the iconic Australian wildlife of kangaroos and koalas. Anstey Hill is a haven for biodiversity, protecting rare vegetation once prevalent across the Adelaide Plains and Mount Lofty Ranges.

Experience the park’s beauty throughout the year. Winter and spring showcase stunning wildflowers, while summer offers refreshing walks through Water Gully, and autumn delivers breathtaking sunsets from the ridgetops.

Dogs are welcome in the park, but must be kept on a leash no longer than two metres and confined to designated walking trails. Please clean up after your pet.

The park’s diverse landscapes support a rich array of wildlife, including birds, reptiles, frogs, and mammals. Keep an eye out for the enchanting Superb Fairy Wren, the iconic Western Grey Kangaroo, and the elusive koala. Anstey Hill is also home to the endangered Chestnut-rumped Heath Wren.

It’s important to acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional custodians of this land. The foothills held significant cultural importance, providing essential resources for generations. To deepen your understanding of Kaurna culture, visit the Living Kaurna Cultural Centre at Bedford Park.
