Hike Management Platform
20 April 2018
I am dedicated to building a community that supports getting people outside and into the wilderness. With this in mind, I am really excited to announce a feature that has been added to your favourite Trail Hiking site.
The Trail Hiking Australia Hike Management Platform allows you to easily organise a hike for others to attend. If you aren’t keen on organising you can join any of the upcoming hikes, organised by other members of our community.
Joining a Hike
With this platform you can view upcoming hikes by ‘Photo, Map or Calendar’ then simply RSVP in order to attend. All hikes are colour coded based on the grade of the hike, this makes it easier to quickly find a hike, suited to your level of experience. If you are not sure what the different grades refer to then please read the Australian Walking Track Grading System summary.
Before you RSVP to any event, it is important that you read the following information regarding the Waiver of liability and Conditions of attendance. It is also important that you read and understand the disclaimer about this platform, shown in the footer of every organsied hike and the end of this page.
Changing your RSVP
After your have RSVPd, you will receive a confirmation email regarding your attendance. If you need to change your RSVP status, simply log in and edit your RSVP, attendee information, and more from your personal profile menu.
Organising a Hike
In addition to accessing more than 2,300 trails across Australia you can now access any hike that you are interested in organising on this site. Then, simply click the green ‘Organise this Hike‘ button.
This will open the event submission page where most information will be pre-populated for you from the hike you have selected. Simply complete all of the required information and submit your hike. I will then review and activate the event so that other adventures can begin to RSVP. If you wish to organise a hike that is not on my site, simply add the required information to the form.
I have prepared some useful information for experienced or budding hike leaders. Checkout the guidelines for leading and posting hikes via this platform. The main aim of these pages is to help you to enjoy planning and leading your next hike and to understand the importance of keeping your hiking group together.
When you organise a hike you will then be able to view your events via your personal navigation tab at the top of the site.
I am hoping that the system will be fairly intuitive to use so have not provided a lot of detail on all of the features. Give it a go and please comment below or in the Trail Talk Forum to let me know what you think.
I hope you enjoy this feature and I look forward to checking out some of the hikes you have planned.
Enjoy your next adventure
Trail Hiking Australia provides a ‘hike at your own risk’ platform. My website is simply a platform to gather outdoor enthusiasts together. I do not provide a professional guide service (Yet). The hosts who are hiking with you may or may not have CPR or first aid abilities. They are not required to have a first aid kit on them. They are not actual ‘guides’ but are simply creating a meeting point for all attendees to gather. All a host is promising by posting a hike in the Trail Hiking Australia calendar is that they will be at the meeting point to help everyone gather. They will also make every effort to lead and will keep the group hiking together. By joining a hike you automatically accept that you have read and agree to the waiver. Not reading this document does not excuse you from agreeing to the personal liability terms of this waiver.
