Depot Beach Rainforest walk is a 400m, grade 3 hike located in Murramarang National Park, New South Wales. The hike should take around 20 minutes to complete.
Hike overview
Depot Beach is a beautiful white-sand beach backed by a towering green rainforest that marks the beginning of the Depot Beach Rainforest walk. Walking this track you can't help but imagine what the region was like 50 million years ago when the whole area was covered by this lush rainforest. Few stands of littoral rainforest remain in Australia, which is why the precious area is listed as an endangered ecological community.
The short walk starts from Depot Beach picnic area and is great for kids who will love jumping across the stepping-stones and balancing along the many logs that line the path. It ends back on the beach, where you can indulge in the beautiful clear waters for a swim, surf, snorkel or a paddle. Take a virtual tour of Depot Beach Rainforest walk captured with Google Street View Trekker.

About the region
Spanning 44km of dramatic coastline, Murramarang National Park is the ultimate spot to soak up some sun and explore the cliffs, headlands and pristine beaches of the NSW south coast. Be sure to pack your swimmers to hit the surf, binoculars for spotting peregrine falcons and sea eagles soaring high above the cliffs, and your fishing rod to catch dinner.
This is one of the rare spots in Australia where the spotted gums grow right down to the ocean, offering plenty of shade in the warmer months and a stunning backdrop for a nature escape all year round. When you're ready to take a break from the stunning beaches you can opt to canoe or walk around Durras lake instead. The Durras lake discovery trail is perfect for kids.
